Dr. Yuan Lu is a cardiovascular epidemiologist and implementation scientist at Yale University. She earned her ScD and MSc degrees in Global Health and Population from the Harvard School of Public Health. Her work focuses on the intersection of cardiovascular disease prevention, health equity, and digital health, employing implementation science methods to address real-world issues. Her long-term objective is to enhance care, outcomes, and equity in cardiovascular diseases through technology-based interventions.
Dr. Lu completed an NIH K12 career development award in implementation science. During this period, she utilized electronic health records from the Yale New Haven Health System to identify patients with persistent hypertension and design decision support systems for improved care. She has also been involved in pioneering collaborative projects between Yale University and the Chinese National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases in Beijing, including the Millions Persons Project, which compiles extensive population health and biomedical data from 5 million individuals across China. Additionally, she has worked with the NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC) on global analyses assessing the impact of risk factors on cardiovascular diseases worldwide.
As an active member of OHDSI, Dr. Lu has conducted research in LEGEND-HTN and LEGEND-T2DM. Co-leading LEGEND-HTN with Dr. Marc Suchard, she evaluates the comparative effectiveness and safety of antihypertensive combination therapies. Supported by an R01 grant from the US National Institute of Health, where she is the Principal Investigator, her goal is to produce real-world evidence guiding decisions on hypertension treatment escalation.
